Edwin Solares
Biography
Edwin Solares is a Lecturer in Computer Science and Engineering and the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute. Prior to coming to UC San Diego, he was a lecturer in the Computer Science department at UC Davis. He obtained his PhD from the University of California, Irvine in 2021 and was a University of California Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow from 2021-2023 at the University of California Davis. His research involves leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Bioinformatics for securing a sustainable future in the face of our rapidly changing climate. He has contributed to generating genomic resources and developed open-source intelligent algorithms in genomics, automation and classification. His research and mentorship also focus on reducing the barrier of entry into the field as well as focusing on underrepresented groups in the field.
